What We Do
Thinking of You Gift began in 2015 and set out to be a shop with a difference from its first day of opening. The gift shop prides itself on its bedside delivery to patients and promotes the sale of thoughtful gifts.
Stocking handmade and socially-responsible ethical products from a kiosk on Level 2 of the Queensland Children`s Hospital. A curated selection of quirky, colourful and fun products available to brighten and cheer patients and carers while in hospital and to let them know you are thinking of them.
The shop has grown in size, product range and opportunity to support Freya in her role as business owner. For the last 21 years, Donna has been the primary carer for her daughter, Freya, who lives with a number of disabilities. From the first moment Freya was born, Donna and her husband have sought out opportunities, which they felt would best support Freya to live a life that is busy, interesting, creative and rich in experience. One of these opportunities is centred around a small gift shop called Thinking of You Gift.
The shop is more than just an energetic business that supports Freya’s growth and interests, it is also a place that provides a platform for other emerging artists – many living with disabilities – to sell and share their work. Centrally, the business also plays an important role in the social fabric of the hospital, as staff and visitors make engaging and interacting with Freya an important part of their day.
It has grown and changed to meet the needs of a young woman to become a joint business owner and retail assistant.
The main point of difference is our service. We are demonstrating new ways of working for people with disabilities, growing and learning in a person driven job.
We provide slow shopping (it takes a little longer to do things) and a genuine personalised service catering for our customer.
